HEAD BAND DIRECTOR - JAMES SNIDER

Mr. Snider was born in Kermit, Texas.  He graduated from Odessa High School where he was a member of the Odessa High School Broncho Band under the direction of Bill Dean.  He played the trumpet as a member of the All-State Symphony in his senior year. 

Mr. Snider received his Bachelor of Music Education from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas.  He studied conducting techniques with Eddie Green at East Texas State University and with Dr. Eugene Coupran at the University of North Texas.

Mr. Snider has helped to develop the musical talents of students across Texas.  His teaching career includes:

ASSOCIATE BAND DIRECTOR - CAROLYN IRELAND

 

    Mrs. Ireland grew up in Tulsa, OK and received her Bachelor of Music Education from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ.  At NAU, she majored in trumpet studies while also completing coursework in piano performance and undergraduate research in field show design under Dr. Richard McEnaney.  She was also drum major of the NAU Lumberjack Marching Band for two years and she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Honors College.

During and immediately following college, Mrs. Ireland was the colorguard instructor for Flagstaff High School in Flagstaff, AZ.  From there, she moved to Texas and taught for four years at Medina Valley HS as a director of the middle school concert band, guard instructor and also front ensemble tech for one year.  While there, the marching band placed 13th at the 2006 Texas UIL State Marching Band Championship and she had many students make the TMEA Region Honor Bands.

In the summer of 2007, Mrs. Ireland came to East Central and currently directs the Concert Band as well as the Odyssey colorguard and winter guard.  She also teaches the AP Music Theory class.

ASSISTANT BAND DIRECTOR - RON GARZA

Mr. Garza instructs the jazz band and oversees the percussion activities for the East Central ISD.

Before becoming a band director, Mr. Garza served as a percussion consultant and kept a private lesson studio, along with teaching middle school and high school percussion classes and marching percussion in the San Antonio area.

He received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Texas State University-San Marcos where he was a member of the Bobcat Marching Band, PASIC Drumline, Salsa Del Rio Latin-Jazz Ensemble, the Panorama Steel Drum Band, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity.

Mr. Garza’s professional memberships include Percussive Arts Society, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and he is an endorser for Innovative Percussion, Inc.
